Erasmus+ has over 4 billion euros available for 2024

The European Commission recently published the Erasmus+ programme for 2024. Over 4 billion euros are available for Erasmus+ calls next year. With the first deadlines already approaching in February, it’s time to act now. The experts from Nehem will tell you more about it.

What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+ is the EU programme for education, training, youth, and sport. The programme for 2021-2027 prioritises social inclusion, the green and digital transition and promoting youth participation in democratic life. The programme distinguishes between central and decentralized programmes, with centralized programmes involving European-level evaluations and decentralized programmes requiring domestic submissions with national agencies.

Erasmus+ offers opportunities for mobility and cooperation in:

  • Higher education
  • Vocational education and training
  • Education (including pre-school and childcare)
  • Adult education
  • Youth work
  • Sports.

Structure of Erasmus+

Erasmus+ comprises three key actions or programmes, with a focus on cooperation among organisations and institutions (Key Action 2), support to policy development and cooperation (Key Action 3), and other relevant actions.

Key action 2 Cooperation among organisations and institutions

This key action supports the following actions:

  • Partnerships for Cooperation, including cooperation partnerships and small-scale partnerships
  • Partnerships for Excellence, including centres for vocational excellence, Erasmus+ teacher academies, Erasmus Mundus Action
  • Partnerships for Innovation, including alliances
  • Capacity-building projects in higher education, vocational education and training, youth, and sport
  • Not-for-profit European sport events.

We briefly explain the partnerships for cooperation as an example. There are two types of Cooperation Partnerships:

  • Cooperation Partnerships: These cooperation partnerships aim to strengthen the activities of participating organisations, through the exchange and development of new practices and methods with intended impact at local, regional and (inter)national level. Organisations within primary, secondary, vocational and higher education, as well as youth organisations, cooperate with European organisations on a long-term basis. The proposed funding model for Cooperation Partnerships consists of a menu of three single lump sums, corresponding to the total grant amount for the project, taking into account the activities they want to undertake and the results they want to achieve. Those amounts are: 120.000 euros, 250.000 euros and 400.000 euros.
  • Small-Scale Partnerships: Small-scale partnerships allow institutions and organisations to cooperate with institutions and organisations across Europe outside of their home country. These are low-threshold projects with greater flexibility for small-scale organisations and/or organisations participating in Erasmus+ for the first time. The proposed funding model for Small-Scale Partnerships consists of a menu of two lump sums, following similar guidelines as that of Cooperation Partnerships. Those amounts are: 30.000 euros and 60.000 euros.

Key action 3 Support to policy development and cooperation

Key Action 3 includes many other actions to support policy reform in the field of education, training, and youth. These include the following key actions:

  • European Youth Together
  • Jean Monnet.
